Registration in SIRI

New respiratory viruses emerge regularly and have led to several epidemics and pandemics in recent years, such as MERS, SARS, and most recently COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease),
caused by SARS-CoV-2.

Why is registration important?

Early detection of disease outbreaks: Registration enables rapid identification of influenza cases and other viral infections, which is crucial for taking effective measures.

Basis for research and development: Data collection creates the conditions for analyzing risk factors, treatment methods, and the effects of vaccination.

Strengthened preparedness: The information from SIRI is used by the Public Health Agency of Sweden and other actors to improve preparedness for future epidemics and pandemics.

Who should be registered?

All patients with laboratory-confirmed influenza and/or COVID-19 who are being treated in intensive care should be registered in SIRI as soon as possible.

How is registration carried out?

Registration is done via a web-based form available on SIR's Indataportal. The system is open year-round and data is continuously transferred to the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
