Q5. Unscheduled readmission on the same ICU within 72 hours

Reinstatement on ICU shortly after an earlier care session has been completed may reflect the patient being discharged prematurely. The cause of premature discharge may be a lack of resources but also a lack of procedures and incorrect assessments. Patients returning to ICU shortly after discharge have an increased risk of short survival. However, it is unclear whether an extended first intensive care period would have improved survival.
