Change of Q8 quality indicator

Use of scale for sedation and sedation target

Several studies have shown that the use of sedation scale and sedation target results in shorter care times with invasive ventilation. Therefore, for a couple of years, SIR has had the "Use of sedation scale and sedation target" as a quality indicator.

Since the quality indicator was introduced, it has become clear that the second part shown on the SIR's Data Output Portal "If the patient's degree of sedation corresponds
to the documented sedation target" is affected by deficiencies as a quality indicator, since some patients are less awake than desired for reasons other than sedation.

This second part has therefore been removed and the quality indicator now consists only of a part ”Proportion of registration times with invasive ventilation where at the same time registration rates with sedation scale and a documented sedation target are present”.

This does not affect the reporting of data, but only the presentation of data on the Data Output Portal and the figures of Swedish National Quality Registries.(Vården i siffror).
