Elective hospitalization for children

Change of definition

From the 1st of January 2019 SIR changes the definition for elective admission in intensive care units for children of the same as for adults. This is initiated by the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Group, but applies to all intensive care departments and has been approved by the board. The reason is that the definition according to PIM3 is so subjective that the value of the parameter is seen as uncertain. According to PIM3, the definition is that if an ICU admission could have been postponed for more than 6 hours without an adverse effect, it is counted as an elective admission. According to SAPS3, the definition that will be used in the future, the definition for elective admission is that the patient's need for intensive care is known for at least 12 hours.
