New ICD codes for the covid-19 pandemic

Two new diagnostic codes valid until 2020-10-16 after a decision from the WHO and the National Board of Health and Welfare.

U09.9 - Postinfectious state after covid-19

Additional code that can be used to describe a permit's relationship with covid-19. The code should not be used in the case of covid-19.
Cannot be a main ICU diagnosis.

Encoding examples:
Patient who five months ago fell ill with covid-19. Now have residual symptoms in the form of anosmia (lack of sense of smell).
R43.0 Anosmia + U09.9 Postinfektious state after covid-19

U10.9 - Multisystemic inflammatory
syndrome associated with covid-19

Example:

Condition temporally associated with covid-19:

  • Cytokinstorm
  • Kawasaki-like syndrome
  • Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children [MIS-C]
  • Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome [PIMS]
Excludes:
Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome [Kawasaki] (M30.3)

Encoding example (current interpretation that is subject to change)
Temporally in connection with Covid infection. U07.1 Covid-19, virus demonstrated + U10.9 Multisystemic inflammatory syndrome associated with covid-19.

If the covid-19 infection is not considered, but there is continued inflammatory syndrome, U10.9 can be used as a standalone diagnosis and then also be selected as the main ICU diagnosis if relevant.
