How do we measure? Why do we measure? What do we use the measurements for?
On Monday, October 2, 2023, SIR arranged a webinar on care weight measurement in the ICU. The purpose of the webinar was to jointly create a broader picture of how care weight measurement is done in different intensive care units in the country, how the measurement tools VTS 2014 and NEMS work and whether you feel that the tools accurately describe care weight. Should the measurement tools be developed, or are there other and better measurement tools to use. Weight of care in itself is a not entirely unproblematic word, what does it actually mean? Perhaps a better term is the amount of work done around the patient? The webinar discussed what the measurements can and should be used for, and this seems to vary - from being used solely for financial accounting to being used elsewhere to help allocate staffing levels and monitor workloads over time.
